Modern Conversion Concept

This is a conversion concept for a 1950s Cape Cod in Ashford Park. It remains a concept as the option to acquire the home was lost. Yet, the design survives! This is a very solid Modern concept that utilizes the entirety of the existing block foundation system and takes advantage of the steep lot approach and street elevation. As the lot continues to rise behind the house, a patio concept was developed to take advantage of the hill via excavation and a retaining wall. The result is large but secluded patio for fair weather entertaining. This gave a perfect opportunity for a water feature on the patio. In this iteration, the home is a gracious 2-Bedroom, 2-Bath concept with ample living and entertainment spaces. The carport design was chosen in lieu of a garage for ease of use, security (visibility) and aesthetics. A small Craft Studio tops the carport with an exterior rear access stair. Later in the design process, a 2-bedroom / Jack-N-Jill bath concept gave way to this feature with a conditioned bridgeway connecting at Bedroom 2. Bedroom 2 would be repurposed as an open Conversation alcove. Hence, the house would be a 3-Bedroom, 3-Bath. The Master Bath is dramatic with a curved glass block wall wrapping the soaking tub. The Bath is convenient to both the bedroom and the private Gym. A private elevator anticipates the maturity of the owners in years to come. The overall design is focused on routine entertaining of 2 to 6 guests with an eye to quiet stay-at-home daily living.
