A Path Forward

A Path Forward

I don’t know about you, but I have tried diligently to Google my way out of inner turmoil. I have tested its abilities to scour the ends of the Earth and deliver me a link which would sooth my uneasy mind. The times I have caught myself on this impractical quest, I can’t help but laugh at myself. And also wish with my whole heart that the exercise was successful.

Typically, these fervent explorations of cyberspace are attempts at fortune telling. How long will this uncertainty last? When will I feel more in control? A quest filled with in every keystroke.

These searches do not indicate my loose tether to reality. The opposite, I think. They are my coping mechanism to unpredictability. Circumstances out of my control rendering consequences upon my life- taking away my sense of authority over my choices. Perhaps, you’ve had similar phrases tapped into a search bar, earnest to find equilibrium in shifting landscapes.

The difference between these explorations into the webverse of mine and yours- mine have been rooted in existential questions. Emotionally motivated. Yours are investigations into your possibilities. Best steps forward. An attempt to ascertain the best solutions for you and your family.

The reality is that there are a lot of conditions that are currently in flux. I wish that I possessed the clairvoyance to predict what exactly will happen next. I don’t. What I do have is an overall understanding of where the industry is right now. For better or worse. Some factors are simultaneously both. For example, you purchased your home before pricing raised exponentially. In that time, your equity has grown congruently. Purchasing a new home may not be feasible due to said increased prices. Renovating your current home and capitalizing on the increased interest can be a great option.

I can’t speak for all housing markets, though I am well versed in the Atlanta market. Yes, acquisition costs are higher than ever. There is also no indication that it will change. For those trying to get into a home for the first time, this is a challenge, to say the least. For those looking to invest in their homes- expanding or renovating to better address their needs- this is an asset. Your plans are not a risk. The biggest challenge is knowing what exactly you’re willing to invest. The next challenge- patience.

The process of design and building is one that is methodical- and at times feels rather slow- especially if you’re drowning in Legos and just need more space to put them away. Or you have a traffic jam in the mornings with one bathroom for your whole family.  Perhaps that’s only me.  I digress. Though the timeline of the project is not set in stone, each step is exciting- perhaps even liberating. Moreover, the process gleans more answers than questions.

Stick with us. We are going to do our best to answer the age old question- Where do I start? And give you as many breadcrumbs to hold course while the fluctuations in the market attempt to veer you off the path. For now, just know that you don’t need existential dread fueled internet searches in the dark of night. Hope is not lost.  We are in this together.
